Global presence of HMRLignan

Linnea was founded in 1980, originally under the name Arylan SA. The Italian entrepreneur Renzo Noli, along with two other shareholders, bought the site of a former chemical plant in Riazzino and converted it for use as a botanical extraction plant. The primary purpose of the business was to manufacture bulk botanical extracts, together with a number of “semi-synthetic” chemicals derived from raw botanical materials.

In 1983 Arylan was restructured and renamed Linnea SA, with Mr. Noli as sole shareholder. During the 1980s Linnea offered a range of over twenty-five products. In 1989, the company was renamed Nuova Linnea. In 1990, a joint venture involving the German group Schwabe and the French group Ipsen (then known as Beaufour) bought 51% of Nuova Linnea. The new shareholders injected fresh capital into the company and invested heavily in manufacturing capacity and quality control, as well as safety and environmental systems. After Mr. Noli’s death in 1992, his 49% shareholding was bought out by the Schwabe-Ipsen joint venture in 1993. In subsequent years the company continued to develop successfully. A subsidiary in the USA was established in 1998 to cater to the burgeoning dietary supplement market.

In 2002, the company name was changed back to Linnea SA. During the last 10 years Linnea has strengthened its position in the global API and botanical extract markets, supported by the continuous improvement of quality standards and documentation.
